Bazaar: What effect has social media marketing have on improving business?
Rodrigues :Social media is a game changer for most businesses. Before social media, marketing was driven by two things - PR and finances.
If you had good brand recognition and reach with the media and money to spend on advertising, you would be able to capture a big portion of the market but that meant only the top brands with "connections and deep pockets" could benefit from good marketing.
Nowadays social media gives any business irrespective of size, the ability to reach their audiences and influence them. That's the true power of social media.
Bazaar: What strategy can be used to get more customers?
Rodrigues :The key with social media is to engage with your followers and target market and to provide value. This value can be in the form of education or entertainment......and if possible both.
A big mistake brands make is aiming for virality. Just focus on creating good quality content that's relevant to your target market and do this consistently.
The smart brands know how to do this and if you're good, you can not only build a more meaningful and long term relationship with your fans but you can use it to get better insights to improve your product.
Bazaar: What are the challenges that businesses face in this area?
Rodrigues : Most businesses tymry and use social media to sell. There is nothing wrong with that if you invest the time and effort in building a relationship first before you lot h your prospects.
Just like I mentioned in my earlier point, you need to stand out so that your brand makes the right impression. And the only way to stand out is to engage and provide value. This results in earning the trust of your prospects and fans therebo building a long term relationship with them.
