Bazaar: What have been the biggest cyber threats over the years?
Steinberg : The biggest threat has been, is, and will remain, people. Technologies advance quickly, people’s brains do not. Many of today’s technology products are more advanced than devices portrayed in old science fiction movies as amazingly futuristic, but, yet, human beings make the same dumb mistakes today that they did generations ago. It is no surprise, therefore, that social engineering is so commonly used as part of cyberattacks.
Bazaar: What should governments do to prevent cyber threats?
Steinberg : Governments can help educate the public about why and how to practice proper cybersecurity hygiene, as well as make better efforts to discourage the commission of cybercrimes by more successfully catching and punishing people who commit such crimes.
Bazaar: What measures should be taken by organizations for working from home? (for preventing threats)
Steinberg : I dedicate an entire chapter to this topic in the upcoming Second Edition of my book Cybersecurity for Dummies, which should be on bookstore shelves in a few weeks. In short, organizations must ensure that any and all systems connecting to their information assets are properly secured, and that employees are properly trained about the relevant dangers that remote working poses in terms of both technology and human vulnerabilities.
Bazaar: How does cyber security affect economy?
Steinberg : Today, nearly all areas of the global economy are dependent on the ingerity, availability, and confidentiality of various data and systems. As such, cybersecurity is a critically important factor when it comes to achieving economic success.
